Outdoor Living Newburgh

There is plenty to do when you live in Fife, in Newburgh we have a sailing club for sailing on the River Tay and estuary. There is a football club in the town. There is also an outdoor bowling club (just opposite the property at Shuttlefield).

The countryside and scenery is outstanding and Newburgh has beautiful views over the River Tay and Perthshire. If you like walking then you will discover lots of walks are available, and for pet owners there is plenty of places to walk and play with your dog.

The nearby stocked Lindores Loch and Golden Loch provide opportunity for fishing at a reasonable daily and evening rates. Newburgh also has a small loch which has wild brown trout fishing. Salmon fishing is available nearby. Sea fishing can be booked at Arbroath or Anstruther, both are approximately 40 minutes drive away.

Golf in Fife

St Andrews is the Home of Golf and you can easily drive to St Andrews for a game of golf in about 20 minutes. Fife has many excellent golf courses and you will find playing the golf courses a Drumoig, Elmwood, Ladybank and Falkland and many others throughout Fife, Perthshire and Tayside.

Education and Training

Newburgh has an excellent Primary School and nearby Secondary Schools in Cupar and Perth.

Newburgh is also close to colleges and Universities where you can undertake a wide range of educational courses. Perth College is close by and is also part of the University of the Highlands where you can progress from an HNC course to a Degree. In nearby Dundee you have access to Dundee College, Dundee University and Abertay.

In Cupar there is the land based college - Elmwood where you can take Greenkeeping, Horticulture and Agricultural courses as well as computing, business, hairdressing and catering courses.

Employment Opportunities

Newburgh is an ideal location to commute to nearby towns and cities while living in the countryside. The town also has access to high speed broadband allowing you to develop home based businesses using the Internet.

The increasing arts and crafts movement in Newburgh also makes this an ideal location to develop and work with others in this area of business.

Autumn - Community selling of Apples, Pears and other fruit

Newburgh is famous for the brilliant apples, pears, plums and other fruit that has been grown for hundreds of years in the town. The community get together and sell their fruit and home made jam each year in the autumn. Most of the fruit is grown "organically" and naturally.

Newburgh War Memorial and Garden

The War Memorial and Garden is a beautifully kept area just opposite our property at Shuttlefield.

View over the River Tay at Newburgh

One of our favourite views is over the River Tay at Newburgh. This view is literally 5 minutes walk from the house. There is a walk along the river at this point and you will sometimes see Ospreys flying overhead and hunting for fish in the river.

The house consists of 2 double bedrooms, the main bedroom is spacious and has an open view from the window. The second bedroom is smaller and has been used as a computer room / study. The living room is a bright room where there is room for a dining table as well as other furniture. The kitchen is plumbed for a washing machine and has good storage and working surfaces. The mains gas cooker has been left for the next owners although probably could do with being replaced. The Garden and Views over the Park and River Tay

Shuttlefield - View from bottom of garden

View of the bottom of the garden, views of the River Tay and Park

3 Shuttlefield has an attractive long narrow garden that is fenced off from the neighbours. Please note that there is right of access to the other properties that adjoin the garden area. This has never been a problem. The garden consists of mature shrubs and flowering plants. A small vegetable plot is at the bottom of the garden where currently herbs and potatoes have been grown. The garden also boasts of a plum tree that provides ample fruit every second year, Newburgh is famous for its orchards - apple and plum trees. You have outstanding views and beautiful scenery over the River Tay from the garden, we are sure you would love it.

What we love most about living in Newburgh

We love the beautiful scenery around Newburgh and below are some photographs we have taken in the area.

Sunset from Newbugh

This picture was taken up the hill from our house over Perthshire

However, what I have enjoyed most about living in Shuttlefield is that we are literally less than 1 minute from the local park where there is plenty of space for our dogs to play. The park also has a skateboard area and two children play areas, so it is perfect for young families as well as people who have dogs.

We also like the local shops where you can if you wish do your weekly shopping or just your day to day needs. Newburgh also has a chemist, a doctor and dentist.

Living in the Countryside

Living in Newburgh provides many advantages associated with living in a larger village / small town, yet you are just minutes away from being in the middle of the countryside. The views are outstanding, you will also see Ospreys and Buzzards flying overhead as well as hearing owls and woodpeckers in the nearby woods. It is possible you will see Sea Eagles soon as they have been released in Fife by the RSPB. What I love personally is seeing the beautiful River Tay. If you will also see ships sailing up to the port of Perth, sometimes amazingly large ships. The river is of course great for sailing and there is also a local boat race.
